The New menu: create anything from the top bar

2 min read · Updated Oct 19, 2026

The New button in the top bar opens a menu of everything you can create, from any page. It replaced the New project button: New project is the Project item in it.

SCREENSHOT — coming soon
The New menu open under the top bar, listing Ticket, Project, Opportunity, Company, Contact, Task, To-do, Time entry and Meeting.

What each item opens

  • +Ticket: New ticket. Shown when your workspace uses the service desk.
  • +Project: New project, the same form as before.
  • +Opportunity: the New opportunity form on the Opportunities board.
  • +Company and Contact: New company and New contact. The Company item uses your workspace's word for the businesses you serve.
  • +Task and To-do: the form you use from the calendar, for today. Change the day there.
  • +Time entry: Log time, for today.
  • +Meeting: Ask Current, with "Book a meeting with" typed for you. Finish the sentence with the contact's name and Current drafts the meeting request.

Why an item is missing

The menu only lists what your role can create here, so you never see an item that would be refused. A ticket needs the service desk, projects and tasks need permission to manage projects, and opportunities, companies and contacts need CRM access as a Tenant Admin, sales manager, account executive or someone with Full CRM. Finance and Partner Viewers don't create records, so they don't see the menu.

The order

The menu starts in the order people in your role use most: an engineer sees Ticket first, a project manager Project, an account executive Opportunity. Once you have created something from the menu twice, it moves up, and the kinds you use most stay at the top.

Tip
Or just say it
Ask Current can create these too: type "create an opportunity for Contoso" in the search box. See "Create things from Ask Current and the New menu".
Note
On a phone
The New button shows on wider screens. On a phone, use Ask Current from the search box to create records.
