Commissions: pay your sellers without a spreadsheet

8 min read · Updated Jul 24, 2026

Every MSP that pays its sellers on commission runs the same monthly fire drill: someone exports the won deals, rebuilds last month's numbers in a spreadsheet, argues over which line counts yet, and pays late. Commissions replaces that. It lives in the Sales area, it reads the deals and quotes you already close, and it assembles each rep's statement for you — every month, on its own.

You set up the pay plans once. After that, a won deal flows onto the right rep's statement automatically, moves up a recognition ladder as the work becomes real, and lands on a statement the rep reviews and submits and a sales leader approves. Nobody types a commission amount into a box — the module does the math from your own data and shows its work.

Where it lives, and who can open it

Commissions sits under Sales in the sidebar. It needs CRM access — the same flag that unlocks the rest of the Sales area — so partners never see it at all. What you see inside depends on your seat:

  • Account executives see their own money only — My Commission, My Statement, History, and President's Club. A rep can never see another rep's earnings.
  • Sales leadership (a sales manager, or anyone with the sales-leadership flag) sees the whole team — the Overview cockpit, the Team Tracker, Plans & Templates, Spiffs, My Commission, President's Club, and Reports.
  • Partners see nothing. Commission data is CRM data; the partner portal can't reach it.
Note
One quota number, everywhere
Commissions never invents its own targets. Accelerators, goal bonuses, and President's Club all read the exact same Sales Goals you already set on the goals dashboard — the same "rock" your team chases all quarter and all year. Change a goal in one place and every commission calculation that leans on it updates too. See "Set sales goals for your team".

How a payout is built, in one sentence

A rep is assigned a plan; a deal they own is won; the module drops a line onto their next monthly statement, recognizes it up the ladder as the work becomes real, and pays it on the statement's pay date once a leader approves. The rest of this article is just the detail behind that sentence. If you're setting up plans, read "Commission plans and starter templates". If you're a rep reading your statement, read "Read and submit your commission statement". If you lead sales, read "Approve, split, and adjust commission statements".

The three surfaces

  • Plans & Templates — where leadership defines how people get paid and assigns a plan to each rep with a start date. Three best-practice templates are seeded for you to start from.
  • Statements — the monthly document that assembles itself from won deals, quotes, and goals. Reps review and submit; leaders approve or return.
  • Dashboards — the leadership Overview and Team Tracker for the whole team, the rep My Commission page with an honest earnings estimate, and the optional President's Club leaderboard.
Tip
It reads your PSA, it doesn't replace it
Commissions doesn't touch billing in your PSA. It reads what's already there — which deals are won, which quotes are linked, which tickets kicked off, which lines are invoiced — to decide what to pay and when. Autotask, ConnectWise, and HaloPSA all feed it the same way. Your PSA stays the source of truth for the money that leaves the building; Commissions is the layer that decides who earned a slice of it.
