When referral credit starts, changes or stops

3 min read · Updated Oct 22, 2026

Referral credit starts the month a referred MSP pays its first invoice. From then on it follows the seats they actually pay for: seats they add count once they have paid for them, seats they remove stop counting, and when they stop paying their seats stop counting too. Credit that already came off your bill stays yours.

When it starts

  • +During their trial their seats show as pending and earn nothing yet.
  • +Their first paid invoice turns them into Paying, and their seats start counting.
  • +Your own workspace earns credit while it pays Current by card. The credit comes off your Current invoice as the line "Free seats from referrals".

When it changes

  • +They add seats: the new seats count once they have paid for them on an invoice.
  • +They remove seats: the removed seats stop counting.
  • +Their payment fails: their seats stop counting until they pay.
  • +A payment of theirs is refunded or disputed: credit you earned from it that is not on an invoice yet is worked out again without it. Credit already on an invoice stays.

When it stops

When they cancel, their seats keep counting until the time they paid for runs out, then stop. A referral whose workspace ends or is deleted shows as Left. You keep every credit you already received.

How much comes off

  • +Each referred seat is worth a tenth of your own seat price, in your billing currency.
  • +The credit never takes an invoice below zero. Anything above what is left on that invoice waits for the next one.
  • +On an annual plan, the credit builds up month by month and comes off your renewal invoice as one line.
Note
Billed another way
If your workspace is invoiced by Current directly or has free access, there is no card invoice for the credit line. Refer a peer still counts your referred and free seats, and marks those months as not taken off an invoice.

If a credit looks wrong, reach us from Help, Contact support and tell us the workspace you referred.
