Sort tasks by due date
3 min read · Updated Oct 10, 2026
Open the List view and your tasks are already in due date order, earliest first. Click the Due column header to reverse it, so the latest due date comes first, and click it again to go back. On Boards, press Due in the sort buttons above the columns. The table below covers every place tasks are listed.
Sort by due date in the List view
- 1Open ListOpen any project from Projects, then click List in the view switcher at the top of the page (beside Timeline, Board and Calendar). The project picker at the left of that bar shows one project or All projects. The page is called Task list.
- 2Check the Due headerThe list opens sorted by Due, earliest first. The column you sort by turns purple and shows an arrow pointing up or down.
- 3Click a header to change the orderClick Due again to put the latest dates first. Click Task, Project, Status, Priority or Checklist to sort by that column instead; a new column starts in ascending order. Assignee can't be sorted.
- +Tasks with no due date go to the bottom when the earliest date is first. Tasks with the same date sort by name.
- +A due date that has passed shows in red.
- +The sort goes back to Due, earliest first, when you reload the page.
- +The filters above the list narrow it: Search tasks…, All statuses, All priorities, All assignees, Hide completed (remembered for you), Completed projects, and Everything or My work.
Every task view, and how it orders tasks
| Where | Sort by due date? | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| List | Yes, and it opens that way | Click a column header to sort; click again to reverse. Due, earliest first, is the starting order. |
| Boards | Yes, with the Due button | The buttons above the columns read Manual, Priority, Due and A–Z, and the choice sorts the cards inside each status column. Boards start on Manual. Dragging a card to a new spot in its column works only in Manual. The choice resets when you reload. |
| Timeline | No | The Sort list offers Start date (the starting order), Name and Duration (longest first). Tasks stay grouped by phase, and tasks with no dates sit under Unscheduled. |
| Calendar | Not needed | Each task sits on the day it is due (or its start date when it has no due date), in Day, Week or Month view. Tasks with no dates are in the Unscheduled tasks drawer. |
| My Day, Your work | No | Your work lists tasks in the order Current suggests working them: Overdue or at risk first, then Today by due time, then Tomorrow, then Next week and later. Within a group, higher priority comes before an earlier due date. The date lanes across the top jump to a group, and keys 1 to 5 do the same. |
| A project's own page | No | Tasks are grouped by phase, in the order set on the project (the row arrows or drag handle). Search tasks… narrows the list. |
Tip
Only your own tasks
List, Boards, Timeline and Calendar each have an Everything and My work switch. Choose My work to see only the tasks assigned to you, then sort the List by Due to see what you owe next.
