Ask Current: search, or ask a question, from one box

5 min read · Updated Oct 9, 2026

The search box at the top of every page does two jobs. Type a name or a number and it takes you to the record. Ask a question and Current answers from the records in your workspace that your role can open, with a link to every source it read.

SCREENSHOT — coming soon
Ask Current open with nothing typed: Go to on the left, four starter questions in the middle, and the history column on the right.

Open it

Click Search or ask Current… in the top bar, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) from any page. The window has three columns: Go to on the left, the conversation in the middle, and your history on the right.

Find a record

Start typing. Matching companies, projects, tasks, tickets, deals, contacts and pages appear under Go to, in the same order as before. Use the arrow keys and press Enter to open one. Record search, its ranking and the CRM actions work exactly as described in "Finding anything fast: global search with ⌘K".

Ask a question

Type a question and press Enter. When what you typed reads like a question (it ends in a question mark, starts with a word such as who, what, which, show, list or prep, or runs to five words or more), Enter asks instead of opening the top record. ⌘Enter always asks, whatever you typed. A few questions people ask:

  • +Prep me for my next meeting.
  • +What's overdue on the Harbor Dental office move?
  • +Which of my deals close this month?
  • +How many hours did I log last week?
  • +What did we last talk about with Northwind?
  • +Who on my team is out next week?

While Current works, the sources it is reading appear one by one, and a record that is also listed under Go to is marked Reading. The answer then arrives as a short briefing: an opening line, then figures, a short table, numbered points or a record tile as the question needs, and up to three follow-up questions you can ask with one click.

An answer to a meeting prep question: the opening line, a row of figures, the open work, and a source tag after each fact.

Each sentence and figure ends in a source tag. Click one to open that record: a deal, a company, a contact or a task opens in the drawer, a project or a Help Center article opens its page, and an IT Glue document opens in a new tab. Current builds every link itself from the record it read and never prints a link the AI wrote.

A sentence that no record supports is left out of the answer. When nothing you can open answers the question, Current says: "Current couldn't find that in what you can open. Try naming the partner, ticket or project." It does not guess.

Under an answer, a line says whose access Current used and, when some sources were outside it, how many it did not read. Two people can ask the same question and get different answers. What each role can read is in "What Ask Current answers, and who sees what".

Keep the conversation going

Type a follow-up in the box under the answer, or press / to jump there. Current sends the conversation so far with it, so "what did we promise them last quarter?" knows who them is. A question typed in the box at the top always starts a new conversation. Conversations are kept for 30 days; see "Ask Current history: pin, find and delete chats".

Add a note without opening the record

Switch the box under the conversation to Note (or press ⌘J), type what happened, and press Enter. Current saves it on the right company, contact or deal with 10 seconds to undo, then sends it to your PSA the same way as a note typed on the record. It can also log a call or add a to-do. The details are in "Add notes from Ask Current".

50 questions a day

Each person can ask 50 questions a day. A follow-up counts as a question, and so does a question Current answers with "couldn't find that". A note does not count, and neither does a question Current turns down because it is outside what it answers. When you have 10 or fewer left, the box under the conversation says how many. The count starts again at midnight UTC.

Note
A question that fails is given back
If the answer fails before it arrives (Current could not reach its sources, or the request ran out of time), that question does not count and you can ask it again.

Check what Ask Current tells you

Under the box in every conversation, one line reads: "AI can make mistakes, double check your work. Chat history is kept for 30 days."

AI can make mistakes, double check your work. Ask Current can read a record correctly and still summarise it badly, and it never tells you when it is unsure. Every fact links to the record it came from, so open the source before you act on an answer, send it to a partner, or bill against it. Section 10 of our Terms sets this out in full: AI output is provided as is, and checking it is your job.

Who has it

Every staff role in a workspace has Ask Current. Partner Viewers in the partner portal do not. A Tenant Admin can turn it off for the whole workspace in Settings, in the Workspace group, on the Ask Current card beside AI writing tools. With it off, the box at the top searches records and pages as it did before, and nobody can ask a question or add a note from it.
