A project was completed or archived by mistake: get it back

4 min read · Updated Oct 22, 2026

A project that leaves the Portfolio and the boards has been completed, archived or hidden, and nothing about it is deleted. If it was marked complete in Current, open it and choose Reopen on its Overview. If it was archived, open the Archived section at the foot of the Portfolio and press Restore. If it was deleted in Autotask, open the project and press Restore as Current-native in the banner at the top of its page instead. The table below covers every reason and its fix.

Why it left, and how to get it back

What happenedHow to tellGet it back
Someone pressed Mark complete in CurrentIt is on the Portfolio's Completed view, and your PSA still has it openOpen it and choose Reopen on the Overview. Its previous status comes back, with six seconds to Undo. With two-way sync on, the status is sent to your PSA after Undo ends
It is closed in your PSAIt is on the Completed view, and your PSA shows it closedSet an open status on it in your PSA. Current reads the status on the next sync and brings it back to active
Someone archived itIt is in the Archived section below the Portfolio tableExpand Archived and press Restore
It was deleted in AutotaskIt is in the Archived section, and Autotask no longer has itOpen the project and press Restore as Current-native in the banner at the top of its page. That brings it back as a Current-only project, because there is nothing left in Autotask to sync with. Restoring it from the Portfolio's Archived list leaves it Autotask-synced, and the next sync archives it again
It is an Autotask proposal or baselineIt is in the Archived section, and its project type in Autotask is Proposal or BaselineChange its project type in Autotask. Current restores it on the next sync. Restoring it in Current doesn't last: the next sync hides it again
Its PSA status is hiddenIt isn't archived or completed, but no everyday view shows itA tenant admin opens your PSA's drawer in Settings › Integrations and sets that status back to Visible under project status visibility

When projects keep archiving themselves

On Autotask, a project whose type is Proposal is a proposal, not a project yet, and a Baseline is Autotask's read-only copy of a converted proposal. Current hides both from active work on every sync, and brings a proposal back by itself once Autotask turns it into a project. If you restore one in Current while its type is still Proposal or Baseline, the next sync archives it again. Change the type in Autotask to fix it for good.

Current also archives a synced project once it has checked that the project no longer exists in Autotask. It never archives on a failed check, and it brings back only the proposals and baselines it hid itself.

Find the project first

  • +Portfolio › Completed lists every finished project, newest first, with the date it finished.
  • +The Archived section below the Portfolio table lists every archived project with its number and company.
  • +⌘K search finds a completed project by its name, PSA number or company, marked Completed.

Who can do it

Project managers and admins can Mark complete, Reopen, archive and Restore. Other staff can see the Completed view and the Archived list but can't change a project's state. Completing a project offers ten seconds to Undo, so a mistaken click can be taken back at once.

Note
Tasks closed during completion stay closed
Reopen brings back the project's previous status. Tasks that were closed when the project was completed stay closed; reopen the ones that still need work from the task drawer.
