Slack: fixing common problems

4 min read · Updated Oct 17, 2026

The Slack card and the line under each comment say what went wrong. Here is what each problem means and what to do about it.

A person isn't matched

Current matches people by email address, so someone whose Slack account uses a different email address than the one they sign in to Current with isn't matched. A Tenant Admin sees who on the Slack card: press Manage and read the Not matched yet list. Until they are matched, their alerts go by email and a mention of them is not a Slack tag. Two ways to fix it: the person opens Settings › Your settings › Notifications and presses Connect my Slack on the Your Slack card, which links them directly; or they change the email on their Slack profile and a Tenant Admin presses Match again under Manage › People. Someone who isn't in your Slack workspace at all stays on email.

A comment didn't reach the project's channel

The Current app can only post in a channel it is a member of. If someone removed the app from the channel, invite it back: in the channel, type /invite @Current. Linking a private channel needs the same invite first; until then Current answers "Invite @Current to this private channel in Slack (type /invite @Current there), then link it again." If the channel was archived in Slack, Current stops posting to it, and the project's Slack channel shows it was archived. Link another channel, or unarchive it in Slack. If the channel was shared with another company (Slack Connect), Current stops posting to it too; link a channel that is not shared. Mentions in a comment that could not be posted still reach people by direct message or email.

Slack app was removed

Someone removed Current from your Slack workspace, or revoked its access in Slack's app settings. Current stops every Slack post and alert, alerts go by email, and Tenant Admins see a banner until it is fixed. A Tenant Admin opens the Slack card, presses Manage and then Connect Slack again. Project channel links are kept, so the channels pick up again once the app is back; each person who had connected their own Slack connects it again. Or, on the Slack card, press Manage, then Disconnect Slack to go back to Teams.

"Slack no longer accepts Current's connection."

Slack has stopped accepting the connection Current holds, for example after the app's access was revoked. A Tenant Admin opens the Slack card, presses Manage, then Disconnect Slack, and connects Slack again. Project channel links are kept.

"Only a Slack workspace admin or owner can connect Slack to Current."

The person who presses Allow in Slack must be an admin or owner of that Slack workspace, as well as a Tenant Admin in Current. Ask a Slack owner to make you a Slack admin, or ask a Tenant Admin who is already a Slack admin or owner to connect it.

This Slack workspace is already connected to another Current workspace

One Slack workspace serves one Current workspace, so messages from Slack can never land in the wrong place. Disconnect Slack in the other Current workspace first, or connect a different Slack workspace.

Your own Slack belongs to a different Slack workspace

Connect my Slack only accepts an account in the Slack workspace your Tenant Admin connected. In Slack's allow screen, switch to that Slack workspace at the top before pressing Allow.

An alert came by email instead of Slack

  • +The person isn't matched (see above).
  • +That kind of alert is switched off under Manage › What goes to Slack on the Slack card, or switched off by the person in Notifications.
  • +Slack refused the message or didn't answer in time. Current never sends the same Slack message twice, so it sends the email instead.
  • +Slack and email is chosen on the card, so both are sent on purpose.

Send me a test, under Manage › Check it works on the Slack card, checks that Slack can reach you.

"Disconnect Slack before turning on Teams messages."

A workspace sends messages through Teams or Slack, never both. While Slack is connected, Teams messages (project channels, Teams for your team) can't be turned on. Disconnect Slack first if you want to go back to Teams.
